Ok. So there is this photographers convention every year in Vegas, called WPPI. If you are a photographer, you’ve most likely heard of it.
I happened to be in Vegas for the 2009 WPPI convention. I was VERY new to the industry then, and decided I would wander around the tradeshow while I was there. Whoa. I was impressed and overwhelmed with the plethora of information packed into the MGM convention center. There were hundreds of vendors. I was like a lost puppy. I must have spent hours in there, introducing myself to my favorite vendors and drooling over everything I wanted to purchase!
Fast forward to 2010. I recently left my “day job”, and am now a full time photographer. What an amazing year 2009 was for my business. I could simply not ask for a better job. It wasn’t initially in my budget to attend WPPI this year (just leaving my day job doesn’t leave much “fun” money aside ; ) ). But NOW I just found out that Tofurious (who’s blog I use and loooove), is giving away 10 FULL REGUSTRATION TICKETS. omg.
I don’t have the best of luck in contests, but figured I’d enter anyways. I mean, all I had t o do was write a blog post about why I want to attend WPPI. Easy enough, right?
I’ve already read up on all of the platform speakers and classes to attend. I want to be a complete sponge and absorb all of the information I can from these classes, then apply it towards my business. There are so many rock star photographers that I would LOVE to hear speak!!! (I’ve actually made a psuedo schedule of the classes I would attend…nerd alert!) I have a room to stay in thanks to my husband’s gambling credits ; ), I am sure the grandparents wouldn’t mine watching the kiddos for a few days (and let’s face it, mama needs a break from 2 little boys!).
Really, since this is my first year working full time in the business, I want to do everything possible to start is off on the right foot. I would love nothing more than to meet all of the awesome photograpers in this industry (because I believe networking is SO important), learn about the latest trends, find new vendors, finally meet some “message board” photog friends who are going…etc. So Lawrence, if you’re reading this, please please please send me to WPPI! (I’ll even bring you some cupcakes/cookies to the tradeshow) ; )
If the stars align for me and I happen to win, shoot me an e-mail over at info@valerieackermanphotography.com. Until then, I’ll just hope, pray, and dream of going to WPPI!
And because I can’t post without a picture, here’s one of my little Kingston trying cereal for the first time…think he liked it?

Til next time,
V

ig: I'm impressed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that's equally educative and amusing, and without a doubt, you've hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this during my search for something concerning this.
